EnergySolutions (Salt Lake City, UT) said it has taken over the operation of the LaCrosse Nuclear Power Plant located in Genoa, WI, following approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). EnergySolutions' subsidiary, LaCrosseSolutions, LLC will continue decommissioning the plant, which was shut down in 1987. "We appreciate the NRC's timely review and confidence demonstrated by approval of this license transfer," said Ken Robuck, President of Decommissioning and Disposal for EnergySolutions.

NRC Approves Transfer of Operational Control of LaCrosse NPP to EnergySolutions for Final D&D
June 1, 2016 – Salt Lake City, Utah – EnergySolutions announced that, effective today, the official transfer of operational control for the LaCrosse Nuclear Power Plant located in Genoa, Wisconsin to EnergySolutions' subsidiary, LaCrosseSolutions, LLC is complete, as approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This license transfer allows LaCrosseSolutions to continue the expedited decommissioning activities of the nuclear power plant, which was shut down in 1987.
"We appreciate the NRC's timely review and confidence demonstrated by approval of this license transfer," stated Ken Robuck, President of Decommissioning and Disposal for EnergySolutions. "Our track record of adherence to regulatory requirements coupled with our experience from the Zion project and other sites provides DPC with a higher degree of certainty with respect to cost and schedule to accelerate completion of this project," added Robuck.
Under the license transfer agreement, LaCrosseSolutions assumes responsibility for completing the remaining decommissioning of the site, except for the on-site spent nuclear fuel storage facility. Upon completion of decommissioning, the license will be transferred back to Dairyland, who will remain responsible for the spent fuel.
